I spent almost all last weekend, and down to the off-duty time till
midnight yesterday, watching a series of 30 eposodes of subject TV drama.  I’ve been totally "spent", but it’s worthy.

The fiction depicts the lenghty, brutal espionage battle between
Nationalist and Communist from Sino-Japanese War to the civil war ended in 1949 on the Mainland, and its sequels continued in the confrontation across the Strait. The director and the scriptwriters managed to extricate themselves from traditional dogmatism of similiar topics, eg. good guys vs. bad guys, overly flattering communism etc., and focused on the lurking acitivities of spying and counter-spying throughout the intense and intriguing storylines. It’s really a nail-biter, or a page-turner of TV kind.

"潛伏" has been a slice of life of our age; the idealistic and promising Communists finally routed the venal and depraved Nationalists in 1949.  However, I do hope someday the struggle between zealous social reformers and degenerate vested interests would vanish permanently in either side of the Strait, no more sad scene like that in the denouement: the hankering
wife, holding her new-born baby, standing at some rural backwater, pined for her husband to come home through long. winding road all the way from nowhere( Taiwan, actually; but she didn’t know that).
