I thought the movie is merely a romantic comedy out of a lonely hearts ad; actually it is a bitter-sweet love affair, depicting the fundamental difference between men and women toward human affections. One of famous Chinese writers once said, with respect to true love, that men tend to be everlasting but not single-minded; on the contrary, women tend to be single-minded but not everlasting. Why? the movie told us that a woman in love leaves no room for another man until she’s got herself over the previous ones; whereas, a man would accept another woman while deeply
ingrained in his heart there may have many others. I was inspired by the phenomenon, and built MY own theory: men are the creatures of time, and women are the creatures of space. Biased? Of course you may disagree with me.

The majestic grandeur of urban China and, among otherattractions, the ineffable beauty of the wetland near West Lake have created a sense of vastness for the small film. The director of "海角七號" should someday shoot his film in the Mainland lest his work be confined to parochial views. A China hater?  Don’t sweat it, the film could give you a chance of compensation by worshipping the tidiness of Hokkaido, Japan, from where about one third of the film was shot.

Suffice it to say that the perspicacity of the director and the
performance of Ge Yu(葛優) would worth you while to watch the film, let alone those witty remarks and punch lines. By the way, we should give some credits to the actress Shu Qi(舒淇); her likewise outstanding performance has shot her for a real stardom, not just a cheesecake girl any more.
