有婦人晝日置小兒沙上而浣衣於水者。虎自山上馳來，婦人倉皇沉水避之。二小兒戲沙上自若。虎熟視久之，至以首牴觸，庶幾其一就懼；而兒痴，竟不知。虎亦尋卒去。噫，虎之食人，先被之以威，而不懼之人，威亦無所施歟！

Once in the daytime, a woman did her laundry by the stream side while putting her two children on the bank. Then a tiger dashed from the hill toward them, and in panic, the woman jumped into the stream. However,  the two kids were composed and playing with sand on the shore. The tiger stared at them for a long time and even touched them with its head, hoping one of them would scare and statle. Still, the innocent kids did not react. Finally, the tiger left. I reckon that before tigers are going to eat human beings, they would probably intimidate those who are scared. But their bluff would be in vain to the people who are not afraid of them at all.
