A couple of days ago, in the gloaming, when I finished walking on the path along Keelung River, I waited for a bus to carry me back home not far away. Then came the bus to the stop where there was only one passenger, that was me, beckoning. The bus stopped, opening its doors to let me in. But no sooner had I mounted onto the platform than the driver stepped on the accelerator. The impulsive force of the unstable low-floor bus pushed me forward, and I fell to the floor completely. A middle-aged lady passenger jumped from her seat and helped me stand up, and the driver noticed what had happened and apologized to me. Fortunately, my head did not hit anything, and my bones did not break, but I received some soreness. Well, it was okay for an old guy nearing 80. When I alighted from the bus after several stops, I cast a thankful glance at that lady. The densely netted bus system had done a lot for the commuters of Taipei and New Taipei. Seniors do appreciate the services it has provided. But please be patient, dear bus drivers. Please do ascertain that every passenger, particularly those seniors, is in good hands before you step on the accelerator, and please avoid abrupt braking as much as possible you can. |
