This morning, the start of the Memorial Day long weekend, my son-in-law drove us to some faraway farms in the northern part of the Bay Area to pluck mulberry and pick cherry. This is the first time I have had such an event in the States. (I did dig-and-buy yams in Taiwan once.)

My daughter advised me not to pluck the mulberries in green or half-green; the sweet ones must be in red, and even turned to purple. I did what she told me, and I found the mulberries facing the sun, not hidden in the leaves, are redder or even purple. Anyway, "向陽花木易為春".

Then we went to a cherry farm. This time I must be more careful in "cherrypicking" because the abundant cherries on the trees are in different colors: from light yellow to dark yellow, to bright red, and dark red. I was told to pick dark red ones only. Unconsciously, I picked several pounds. Oh my goodness, how could two persons, my wife and I, consume so many cherries before we got tired of them?

After plucking and picking, we ordered some buyouts and brought them to a nearby park to have a picnic. My son-in-law must have had a hard day because he drove a round trip of 100 miles for the trip.
