Recently, a homeless person with a Ph.D. degree stole the limelight in mainland China. That guy, now 54 in NYC, was a graduate from a highly prestigious university, Fudan, and then went to America for further study under the auspices of a government-sponsored scholarship. When he acquired his masters and doctors degrees in physics, he opted to stay and work in America and eventually became a US citizen.

For reasons not yet fully identified, he later became homeless. Now some groups, like the townsmen association, Fudan alumni, and so on, are trying to help send him back to China for a better life in the future. The move raised a lot of pros and cons within China and Chinese societies in the US. The following is the best comment I have read about the discussion so far.
