Yesterday I wrote something about the place I am staying at right now: Ruby Hill. Then I thought of other kinds of gem which names I would like to list here for your reference:

Ruby 紅寶石

Sapphire 藍寶石

Emerald 綠寶石

Topaz 黃寶石

Amethyst 紫晶

Jet 黑玉

Amber 琥珀

Well, I've never, nor I would ever own myself any of them. Instead, knowing their English names that would matter much more to me.

That's why the gem talks can always bring me the valuable memory and I just love to mention it. We are allowed to keep the good memory especially when we are aging. Aren't we?

You bet. What kind of good memories are worth of keeping in our mind? Certainly, professional success is one of them. You must have been a very competent employee in your work.

紫晶、黃寶石、黑玉是我不熟悉的東西。

I am wondering 澳洲人是不是對紅寶石比較不偏好，因為澳洲很多地方性的名字，譬如景區，甚至珠寶店，好像都不標榜紅寶石。倒是比較多綠寶石。反正我對寶石也是外行，年輕的時候曾經在曼谷趕時髦也買了紅寶石，當時蠻喜歡的，很快的也不知是給了家人還是丟到哪兒去了。

By the way，我在澳洲的頭幾年換過幾次雇主，賞識我的上司們都喜歡稱呼我為 our gem。

All I know is their names, nothing else. You know, when someone, especially a boss, says you are a gem to him or her, that means you are indispensable to the department you're in. Good for you!
