The Spurned Overtures

In my previous posting "Cold, Cold Heart" at http://blog.udn.com/kkuo0810/8827052, I used a portion of the lyrics from that famous American country song, "The more I've learnt to care for you, the more we've drifted apart.  Why can't I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?", to describe the lopsided relation between Mainland and Taiwan.  Now the situation has become worse and worse, especially since the outbreak of so-called Sun Flowers Movement occurred early this year.

I learned from WantChinaTime that recently a seminar on cross-strait relation was held at Xining, Jinghai.(Wow, a geographically remote area from the strait, why there?)  One of main topics is why Mainland's act of "yielding benefit" has not been working; quite the contrary, it has become kind of a fiasco, at least so far.  A participant from Taiwan insinsuated that the "yielding benefits" were all gone to the pockets of business tycoons, but not beneficial to the islanders of grass-roots level, especially those of young generation.  Therefore, the disgruntled students gathered to object the service-trade pact lest the gap of rich and poor should be furthur widened.

What kind of the lame excuse it is.  It is the job of Ma administration to fairly and reasonably distribute Mainland's "largesse" to the people of Taiwan, isn't it?  How could Mainland interfere the "internal" affairs of Taiwan?  Even Ma administration is capable of doing something good to Taiwan under the auspices of Mainland China, will the opposition DPP allow him to do without stonewalling and obstructing in Legislation, or agitating stalwarts to demonstrate on streets?

Dear Mainlaners, whatever you're doing to improve the relationship across the strait are spurned overtures.  You'd better think it over; anyway, time is on your side.

but not beneficial to the islanders of grass-roots level, especially those of young generation.

This is not to the point.   The truth is that, as 蔣渭水 and later the Japanese governor of Taiwan concluded,  "台人畏威不懷德“。

You are absolutely right. FYI, report says the commentator is the former chairman of Taiwan Solidarity Union.
