Every time when I walk along the perimeter of the lake in Bihu Park, often will I see a tall girl (at least taller than I am) stand at some corner of the trail, selling mochi. She always wears a mask (even before the pandemic), and never peddles her goods by chanting. She is speech-impaired. If I bring cash with me as I do my walking around the lake, I will stop to buy a box of mochi from her at the last lap. I have totally no idea if a box of ten pieces of mochi sold at the price of TWD200 is reasonable or not; nonetheless, I do appreciate the bright glimpse from her unspoken but thankful eyes. I bought the mochi again yesterday afternoon. PS How do I know the price of her mochi if she is speechless? A cardboard hanging on her neck tells me of it.
