垂楊紫陌洛城東,

from the willow-clad path made of purple clay in the eastern Luoyang,

總是當時攜手處，游遍芳叢。

where walking hand-in-hand we used to tour among various flowers in clusters.

聚散苦匆匆，此恨無窮。

Joyful but short tryst soon became a heartbreaking wrench, left me only endless remorse.

今年花勝去年紅,

Flowers of this year were ruddier than those of last year,

可惜明年花更好，知與誰同？

and next year will be even better, yet I wonder by the time who will be there with me ?
