Although DPP administration discouraged or even prohibited islanders from listening to the subject march "中國一定強"(originally "中國不會亡"), people over 40 in Taiwan must have heard of this inspriring, strenuous, and patroitic song widely sung during Resistence-Against-Jap War. The background of the song stemmed from the tragedy of Battle of Shanghai in 1937 when the aces of then Chinese army, the German-equipped 87th & 88th Divisions, other brave, high-spirited soldiers from everywhere nationwide as well, fought hell-bent against Japanese invaders. But due to the lack of heavy weapons, most of the braves sacrificed their lives out of the shells shot from the Jap destroyers which were cruising along Long River and Huangpu River. In the final debacle, KMT left 800 solders of 88th Division (actually 400) to guard a joint warehouse to "cover" the withdrawing army. That was where the story began. (BTW, my father used to tell me several times that the whole tragedy in Shanghai could have avoided. He said Chiang and KMT should not choose the city to show down with Jap in the first place; somewhere else must have been much, much better. "The decision was a terrible stragetic error", he concluded, and tears burst out of his eyes once after drinking.) In 70s under KMT rule, Taiwan had shot the film capturing the story, now China Mainland also produced a film of the same story under the title of "八佰" and had its premiere for the time being. But some negative criticisms arise. Attached below is one of them: http://www.kunlunce.com/ssjj/guojipinglun/2020-08-17/146175.html |
