Along with several erstwhile college classmates and some more former colleagues to my wife, yesterday I made a one-day tour to Tongxiao, a town not far away from coastline in Miaoli. You know, I am a "Taipei guy", the tour was virtually the first time ever have I visited Miaoli in my nearly 70 years living in Taiwan. The guide led us to a farm of organic produces to listen to an expert, a guy with green thumb, telling us the methods of farming that I have never heard of before. He told us the basic farming and the strict standard of "organic" vegetables: the pertinent usage of insecticide, the suitable temperature to keep produces fresh, and so on. I do not know his name, but thanks. In the noon, we dined at the "restaurant" of the farm. A spread of delicious food, most of them are made from various vegetables, with small amount of meat, that entertained us a hearty meal. After lunch, we continued proceeding to Tongxiao Shrine(神社), a somewhat dilapidated Jap martyr shrine. I was the only one in the group refusing to pay a "tribute" to those Jap soldiers who had brought great hardship to Chinese, certainly including Taiwanese, in the past. Let the "shrine" remain dilapidated forever, or just tear it down, Miaoxi. BTW, totally I walked over 17,000 steps for the day. |
