Remember that Chinese-American lawyer Gordon Chang, the author of that notorious "The Coming Collapse of China"(2001) and many similar "predictions" afterwards?  But his prophetic words have never realized.  In Taiwan there were a lot of idiotic fans admiring this 章家敦“博士”, and he even got an audience with Jap Li in the "presidential" hall.  Actually, Chang had only a law degree of JD(Juris Doctor), a professional qualification for taking LSAT, after passing the test, then the candidates are able to be a lawyer in certain states of America.  So, JD is unlike a PH.D or a LLD of tradtional definition, and it is unable to be called “博士” in Chinese. 

Now China Mainland has regulated that American JD be translated and defined as “法律職業文憑“ only, no more “博士” in Chinese.  Please see following report at:

PS  My daughter has a JD degree herself, also a LLM.  She is a registered lawyer in California.  But now she has been jobless for a long time, being only a full-time housewife at home, doing domestic chores, taking care of my two granddaughters and her husband.
