M: The staff at Sapporo Teine recommended that we come here for a long soak.

S: You’ve come to the right place.

T: We’ve never been to a traditional Japanese hot spring before. Can you tell us what behavior is considered appropriate?

S: Sure. First, you need to remove your shoes before going into the changing area. Second, no bathing suits are allowed.

M: I’m not too comfortable with that, but I guess I’ll have to deal with it.

S: Most importantly, you need to wash and rinse your hair and body thoroughly before you enter the water.
