We've been trying to book this hotel for some time, and finally there're rooms available. The hotel is conveniently located in Zhongshan District, with Zhongshan MRT Station, department stores and famous restaurants nearby. Before we arrived in Taipei, a welcome letter was sent via email. Upon checking-in, we were told that our room was upgraded. The whole building was smoke-free, but when we got into our room, there's a slight smell of cigarette smoke. We called the front desk and a clerk immediately came to our room to help us switch to another room, which was highly efficient!
The layout of the 2nd room was not as good, but it was away from the elevator. It was quiet, although we did not hear any noise back in the 1st room, either. The room was clean and bright, with effective curtains shutting the outside light out. The room was equipped with basic facilities such as desk, fridge, etc., and we also liked the fact that there's no adult movie channels on TV. The only two complaints were that there was no closet to hang clothes, and that the shower head was not user friendly. But these two things were relatively minor.
The hotel offered free breakfast buffet with both Chinese and Western food. It was quite neat and tasty. There were magazines and newspapers in the lobby, and a computer for quick users. The hotel also had free washers and dryers, but the dryers did not work very well.
During our stay, most guests were local Taiwanese or Southeast Asian tourists and they all behaved well. The front desk staff always greeted us with a smile and went out of their way to help us. The most amazing thing was that we never heard any noise during our stay, either because they had great sound insulation or great guests/staff.
We visit Taipei often and stay at a different hotel each time. Compared to other visits, this was a very satisfactory experience. US$90 per night for a standard room in a low season before Chinese New Year was quite high. But in fairness, the rate was close to hotels in the same rank. We saw potential customers checking the price at nightfall and the hotel offered a 10% off discount. Anyone interested can try their luck in the late afternoon.
