Some aspects of this parad have changed over the years. Floats, marching bands and Santa are still part of the parade, but living animals aren't. Those watching today will see numerous giant balloons shaped like animals or famous cartoon characters.

花車、行進樂隊、造型氣球是現代歐美重要節日的遊行隊伍最具代表性的。從上面段落中見到 float 這個字，實在想不出來 "浮動" 和遊行有什麼關係，難道是 "氣球" 嗎？

float 在這裡竟然是 "花車"，不論從中文字面或是英文字本身一點都沒辦法聯想到嘛! 不過，後來 float 倒是和真的會飄動的 "氣球" 搭上關係了，衍生出兩個新字：

falloon ("F"; a portmanteau of “float” and “balloon") is a float-based balloon.

balloonicle ("B"; a portmanteau of “balloon” and “vehicle") is a self-powered balloon vehicle.
