子何謂 『修行』？

【Golden Words from Grand Master Sheng-Yen Lu】 His Holiness Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu Expounded the definition of 『Cultivation』?

Cultivation is behaviour correction, therefore corrective action is to start cultivating from delusions, troubles, slander/calumniation, sufferings/agony.

Cultivate from your thoughts, cultivate from your heart.

Due to your behaviour is controlled by heart, but the heart does not have a real form, it is generated from your thoughts/mind.

「Thought/mind」 is the character of 「heart」.

Therefore the mind cultivation is very important.

But, it is very difficult to shut out thoughts, look at the tree that is very quiet there, tree can't be broken because it is still absorbing water, and still blossom, leaves still fluttering, the water still circulate inside.

Take a needle randomly to pierce the trunk, there will be liquid from the trunk, it still has thoughts, it will feel pain and therefore bleed immediately.

Trees have feeling, will not have no feeling.

If the tree does not have any feelings, it will not bleed.

But the three studies, 「commandments/discipline, meditation, wisdom」, upholding precepts can enable oneself to turn into one, can results in the state of concentration/undisturbed.

Wisdom is the result of concentration, can enter into the phenomenon of vijnaptimatra (consciousness) and mind-only.

Chinese Version:

修行就是修正行為,那麼修正行為是從那裡修,從妄念、煩惱、毀謗、痛苦修。

從你的念頭修,從你的心修。

因為心控制你的行為,但心沒有形相,是由你的念產生出來。

「念」就是「心」的一個外相。

所以修念頭是非常重要。

但,念頭是很難斷的,你看那個樹很靜地在那裡,樹都不能斷,因為它還在吸收水份,還在開花,枝葉招展,它的水還在裡面流通。

隨便拿一根針去刺樹幹,樹幹會流汁,它還有念頭,它會覺得痛馬上就流血。

樹都有感覺的,不會沒有感覺的。

如果它沒有感覺,它就不會流了。

但「戒、定、慧」三學,守戒可以使自己變成一,可以產生定境。

由定裡面可以得到般若,可以進入唯識、唯心的大門。
