往昔寒山禪師，曾經問拾得禪師說:「如果世間有人無端的誹謗我、欺負我、侮辱我、恥笑我、輕視我、鄙賤我、厭惡我、欺騙我、我要怎樣做才好呢？」

  拾得禪師回答他：         

  「你不妨忍著他、謙讓他、任由他、避開他、耐煩他、尊敬他、不要理會他。再過幾年，你再看看他又是什麼樣的一副面目。」

  寒山又問：

  「此外還有什麼處世的秘訣，可以躲避別人惡意的糾纏呢？」

  拾得就告訴他：

  「我曾經看過彌勒菩薩偈，你且聽我念來，偈子是這樣說的:老拙穿破襖，淡飯腹中飽;補破好遮寒，萬事隨緣了。有人罵老拙，老拙只說好;有人打老拙，老拙自睡倒。涕唾在面上，隨他自乾了;我也省氣力，他也無煩惱。這樣波羅蜜，便是妙中寶;若知這消息，何愁道不了？人弱心不弱，人貧道不貧;一心要修行，常在道中辦。世人愛榮華，我不爭場面;名利總成空，貪心無魘足。金銀積如山，難買無常限;古今多少人，那個活幾千。這個逞英雄，那個做好漢;看看兩鬢白，年年容顏變。日月像拋梭，光陰如射箭；不久病來侵，低頭暗嗟嘆。自想年少時，不把修行辦;得病想回頭，閻王無轉眼。馬上放下手，趕緊未為晚;也不論是非，也不把家辦;也不爭人我，也不做好漢。罵著也不較，問著如啞漢;打著也不理，推著渾身轉。也不怕人笑，也不做臉面;幾年兒女債，撥開不再見。好個爭名利，轉眼荒郊伴;我看世上人，都是精扯淡。勸君即回頭，單把修行幹;做個大丈夫，一刀截兩斷。跳出紅火坑，做個清涼漢;悟得真常理，日月為鄰伴。」

Master Han Shan had asked Master Shede : "If others slander me, bully me, insult me, ridicule me, despise me, hate me, cheat me, what can I do?"

Zen Master Shede replied:

  "You might endure him, respect him, let him, avoid him, ignore him. In a few years we will see!"

  Han Shan asked:

  "What’s the society secret to avoid malicious people who keep bothering you?"

Zen Master Shede replied:

  "I have seen Maitreya Bodhisattva verse, Let me read for you: Like old fellow , I wore worn jacket, light meals ; I don’t care if people scold me, I keep my face dry for itself when people  

spit on me to save my energy and to reduce other’s troubles. It’s a great treasure of wisdom.

Weak appearance, unweak soul, poor appearance, unpoor Taoism. Train yourself via Taoism. Everyone except me prefers appearance, Name and power will be gone with the wind. Greed  is like empty hole never can be filled.Golden and silver mountain is hard to be satisfied.i How many heroes can live over thousand year-old age.Time and tide wait for no man. Why not cultivate yourself when we are young. Let it go, don’t judge right from wrong, don’t compare with others. Don’t try to show off. Take it easy to be scolded, Take it easy to be bitten, Take it  easy to be sneered, Don’t take too serious by our environment. Save your time to cultivate your soul. Moon and sun will be your life-long company .
