Some useful idiomatic usages

As Ive said it many times before, idiomatic usage, among others, is one of the barriers for a foreign learner to get hold of English.  The barrier hinders us from learning genuine English mainly because those idioms are derived from cultural custom of English-speaking people.  Now I found some of them at http://www.toutiao.com/a6400246799135932673/, and I hope we all could make better use of them.

I know most of those idioms, but that doesnt necessarily mean I am conversant with them and able to use them at will.  After all, practice makes perfect.

" to get hold of English"

I suppose that you mean (精通英語)which is "in good command of English".

"to get hold of" is "to get (someone or something) physically".
 (释义: 找到某物或找到某人)

Thank you for your comments, but "to get hold of something" do have the meaning of "to learn or understand something" or "acquire something".
