Yesterday I told you the business of Far Eastern Group in China Mainland may have been foiled because of its close connection with Taidu regime in Taiwan. To tell you the truth, I have never liked that company partly because of its name.
You may say what’s wrong with its name? Well, the west(西) and the east(東) both indicate direction, and either 泰 or 遠 means "in long distance" or "remoteness". But 泰 possesses other positive meanings like happiness, fortune, etc., while 遠 sounds not that lofty as 泰. Therefore, to me it is sort of self-deprecating to call the place where we are living as 遠東, while the place where the westerners live as 泰西.
That is why I don’t like the name related to 遠東. Am I a bit paranoid? Okay, I am.
