On new year eve I went to a concert performed by National Symphony Orchestra at National Concert Hall, Taipei. The subject "The Bells" was one of the four Russian symphonies played in the evening, and it was the only one that I am "acquainted" with because, according to the introduction pamphlet, it had been so created from the inspiration of that famous namesake poem written by Edgar Allan Poe, one of the the greatest American writer and poet ever. Well, I guess either the symphony or the poem of "The Bells" is tough to most of us, but a similar American song "The Three Bells" sung by The Browns in 50s may be much easier. (I remember I did write something about the song earlier in my blog, but I cannot locate it right now.) Unlike the poem or the symphony that contains four parts, the song has only three, representing each significant stage of the life on which the bell tolls for an ordinary man named Brown, or anyone else. There you go: QTE There is a village hidden deep in the valley All the chapel bells were ringing Then the little congregation Theres a village hidden deep in the valley All the chapel bells were ringing Then the little congregation From the village hidden deep in the valley Just a lonely bell was ringing And the little congregation UNQTE PS Most likely, I think. the song is also created from the inspiration of the poem by Allan Poe. Please google to find the symphony, or the poem, or the song by yourselves. Thanks. |
