My daughter went to Hawaii early this morning with her hardworking husband, and my granddaughter, too, for a vacation. My wife got a message from her saying there will be a delivery from online purchase arriving sometime today, so she asked us to pick it up for her. You know, in residential areas here delivery man would always put the already-paid stuff you are ordering on your doorstep, then ring a bell and just walk away. Should the receivers not pick up the stuff and leave them outside their house for long, it would be a telltale sign that no one is at home. There we went and picked the stuff up. Before we left her house I found there was a note left on the dining table. It is the note my daughter wrote for the cleaning ladies, along with an envelope containing some cash. A little surprisingly, I also found the note was written in Spanish, though not too many words in there. I know she had taken some Spanish in high school, and I guess the messages she was trying to convey were not hard, still I felt a little proud of her that she is capable of using a third language. (Until today she communicates with us thru LINE all in Chinese.) PS. The cleaning ladies also do the job for us. You know, here in California the low-end jobs, such as lawnmowing, cleaning, grape yard, and so on are almost always taken by those immigrants from Latin America. Yeah, they are pursuing "American Dreams" also. One of the ladies told me her son is now a Yale undergraduate; that is really something, good for her. |
