Worthington's White Shield IPA Brewery: White Shield Brewery (Museum Brewing Company/Coors, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire) Style: English IPA Alc.: 5.6%abv. Serving Condition: bottle-conditiond, served cool in a goblet. Best Before End: 26/02/2006 Review Date: 30/09/2005 Misc.: My first bottle of this beer with a new bottle-design and label. I remember the last bottle I had three years ago still looked the same as the photo we have here on the BA website, but the new package is, if anything, more modern and inviting in a sense of re-inventing itself for wider and younger audience. At least I like it. 4.5/5 Appearance: slightly hazy orangey-copperish colour, coming with a rocky but fluffy, off-white foamy head, only slo...wly settling to a tight, thin neck and leaving very tight lace along the way... nice, gentle carbonation detected. 4.5/5 Nose: a flow of semi-sweetish pale-malts upfront... with slightly sweet walnuty, a sweetish zesty note between orange and lemon; after swirling, an underlying peachy, fruity perfumy and fruit-estery scent is forced out, with rounded, explicit citrusy-floral hoppy aroma sustaining well in the background. Extremely enticing~~ 4.5/5 Flavour: a mouthful of smooth, biscuity pale-malts upfront, against a fat, oily, floral hoppy backdrop underlined by slightly sweet dried-citrus peel (tangerine?) flavour and an intensifying floral bitterness... As the bitterness tunes up, a rounded, warmish alcoholic mouthfeel gradually develops on the palate. Finished not particularly bitter as I'd expect from an IPA, but it goes deep and leaves a dryish and slightly stimulating mouthfeel deep down the sides of the tongue... Satisfying indeed. 4.5/5 Mouthfeel+ 4/5 Overall: overall, very rounded and smooth, and the body is well-balanced but thick enough on texture to buttress the med.-full flavour. A moderate IPA it is, but a rich one by English standards. Very enjoyable beer worth seeking out. (Total score: 4.45/5) "The universal human need for liberation from the restrictions of mundane existence is satisfied by experiencing altered states of consciousness." i.e. Beers!! "If it's not bright, it's not right; if it's not clear, it's not beer!" *堯的個人酒評網頁: http://beeradvocate.com/user/profile/wl0307/ |
