I went with Carl and Michelle to their guiding jobs on 25 April and 9 June respectively. I have experienced impressive guided tours and have learnt very much from them.
Carl’s guide was a time tunnel conjuring up frame after frame of vivid historical image. Following his extensive knowledge was as if I were situating in a small ancient town 100 years ago. In the Hot Spring Museum, it seemed there still were people peacefully sitting in the steamy pools, leaning on balustrade to watch the rising mist above Beitou creek, lying and chatting lazily on tatami mattresses. It seemed I saw people in traditional Japanese dress trotting by, heard the knocking sound of their ‘’getas.’’
Michelle’s guide was a Carnival Parade teeming with marvelous performances. She portrayed Beitou a vibrant touring spot bustling with life. After a long trip, the tourists may be too exhausted to understand all the details of this place. However, Michelle’s witty words and fascinating expression perked them up and brought their attention back. With her nimble mind and joyful tone she lively narrated a concise story of historical people, mystery and relics.
Carl and Michelle not only are excellent in English. They are good at constructing a stage to proceed with the story too. Both are important and capable English tour guide. Carl constructs a nostalgic atmosphere for those who are eager to understand this place profoundly. Michelle constructs a frolic and relaxed ambience for those who need a little rest after a long trip.
Beitou is a beautiful and historical town. It needs more good and passionate persons to go after Carl and Michelle to help foreign tourists understand this place.
