Ten Gu An

Ten Gu is an imaginary being, a dog with upwards pointed nose, pink flush colored face and wings, symbolizing satisfaction, confidence and joy.

Hirada Gengo, founder of Ten Gu An, a hot spring hotel, originally made an attempt to mine gold in Jin Gua Shi, Taiwan. But unexpectedly the project was denied by Japanese authority. The gold mining of private business is forbidden.

With the disappointing result, he came to Beitou and discovered hot spring water in the creek. After bathed in the creek for almost a month, he felt an incredible sense of relief physically and mentally. What a pleasant surprise it is!

Early next year, 1896, Hirada Gengo set up a hot spring business Ten Go An in Beitou. He was proud, joyful and satisfied with this successful business; not only a huge fortune but also a tremendous prosperity was brought in.

Ten Gu, this name definitely meant a lot to Hirada Gengo and Beitou.
