夫妻魚活化石鱟 成雙成對現身澎湖沙灘 （自由記者劉禹慶） 鱟都是成群成隊出現，又有夫妻魚稱號。 澎湖縣中屯風車旁的沙灘，昨天發現一對活化石鱟，由於鱟經常成雙成對出現，也俗稱夫妻魚，澎湖縣政府4年前將鱟列入禁捕，數量明顯回升。

鱟ㄏㄡˋ為鱟科（學名：Limulidae）動物的通稱，又名「馬蹄蟹」、「蟹兜」、「夫妻魚」，屬於劍尾目的海生節肢動物，而劍尾目最早出現的時間可回溯至奧陶紀，因此被譽為活化石。

鱟的身體分為三部分：最大的部分是頭胸部，然後是分節的腹部，再下邊是一根長長的尖尾刺。它的頭胸部側面有一對複眼，每隻眼睛是由若干個小眼睛組成。另外還有一對感受紫外線的單眼。它們也有一對鉗子，稱為螯肢，是專門捕食蠕蟲、薄殼軟體動物用的。它們可以背朝下游泳，但一般喜歡鑽進泥沙中並在泥里爬行。鱟生長得不算快，它們須要脫16次殼（脫殼一次稱一齡，但並不是一年脫一次殼，鱟的小時候脫殼次數較多次），經過9到12年的時間才達到成熟。 

人類一直就將中華鱟當作食物，它們的肉、生殖腺和卵都可食用。但是鱟裡血中含銅量過高，所以大量食用會中毒。另外圓尾鱟含有劇毒的河豚毒素，不可食用^[7]。

人們發現鱟的複眼有一種側抑制現象，也就是能使物體的圖像（尤其追蹤背景中的動態圖像）更加清晰，這一原理被應用於電視和雷達系統中，提高了電視成像的清晰度和雷達的顯示靈敏度。

鱟的血液中含有銅離子（血青蛋白），它的血液是藍色的。這種藍色血液的提取物——「鱟試劑」，可以準確、快速地檢查人是否因細菌感染而致病；在製藥和食品工業中，可用它對毒素污染進行監測^[8]。血液中的變形細胞（少量，離心得到沉澱白色物）甚至被帶上外太空，偵測有機體及保護太空人免於疾病傷害^[9]。

每當春夏季鱟的繁殖季節，雌雄一旦結為夫妻，便形影不離，肥大的雌鱟常馱著瘦小的丈夫蹣跚而行。此時捉到一隻鱟，提起來便是一對，故鱟享「海底鴛鴦」之美稱。台灣漁民常趁此大肆獵捕，閩南語稱之為「掠鱟」，更由此衍生出「捉姦」之意，有人認為後來因諧音之故，逐漸由「掠鱟」音轉為「掠猴」，成為臺灣社會常用之訛音（但也有人認為「掠猴」並非來自「掠鱟」，因為閩南語早就有用「猴」來指稱「嫖客」或「姦夫」，相關的語詞、俗語很多，不可能都是由「鱟」訛音而來）。台灣本島和澎湖已鮮少看到，金門還能看到一些^[10]。

閩南語俗語話：好好鱟刣甲屎流（Hó-hó hāu thâi kah sái lâu），上等的鱟魚卻料理得漏屎，比喻一件好好的事卻弄得亂七八糟。
