話說有個台灣人去加拿大賞楓。
中午在一景點餐廳吃午飯，他點了個直徑9吋的披薩，過了一會兒，服務員客氣地端來了兩份直徑5吋的披薩，解釋說：9吋的披薩沒有了，所以就給您來兩份5吋的，多送您1吋吧！
 這位台灣人一楞，客氣地請服務員叫來店老闆，當場給他演算了一下求圓面積的數學公式：S=兀r²，其中兀是圓周率，等於3.1415926 ~ 是圓半徑，算下來9吋的面積=63.62平方吋，而5吋的面積=19.63平方吋，兩個5吋面積加起來是39.26平方吋。
 你給我三個披薩我還虧著呢！
怎麼能說多送我一吋?
 老闆無語，最後給了他4個披薩並竪起拇指道：台灣人真厲害，數字敏銳度高，難怪能做出世界第一的晶片
台灣是個遠離中原的島，島形南北長，從頭到尾的中脊高聳入天，脊兩側河川魚骨狀切割入海，幸運地容納了十幾族的原民各自存在，也不幸地從未能自主統一而治。溯自上次冰河時期末，原民與福客廣越(應該都是同源)人因台海水位上升而漸次分離，彼此不僅有海上物資貿易，且有隨時少量移出移入之民，一向平和融入。待明鄭清施戰後，全島方逐漸聯結至高山，山原海原乃稍啓融合之路。比起美洲印第安人的遭遇，幸運多了！
