Easter is considered a “moveable feast”, which can occur as early as March 22 or as late as April 25. The Easter bunny have long been symbols of fertility. The traditional foods that are consumed on Easter are: colored hard-boiled eggs, hot cross buns, roast lamb, twisted bread and simnel cake. Easter eggs are enjoyed by everyone, but are especially popular with children. It symbolizes new birth, and is now given in the form of chocolate eggs. Hot Cross Buns are yeast dough buns with currants and raisins inside them. The Simnel cake is a fruit cake with a flat layer of marzipan (sugar almond paste) on top. The twisted bread are designed to represent a person with their arms folded in prayer. Roasted lamb is a popular dinner as it represents the first Passover of the Jewish people. A game that is very popular during Easter is the egg hunt. It is a game in which decorated eggs, real hard-boiled ones or artificial, filled with or made of chocolate candies, of various sizes, are hidden in a variety of places for children to find. This game may be played indoors or outdoors. When the hunt is over, prizes may be given out for various achievements.
