The R164 between Moynalty, Co Meath and Kingscourt, Co Cavan.

THE MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT Leo Varadkar has announced that €40 million will be re-allocated within local authorities in order to help fix Ireland’s roads.

Admitting on Morning Ireland that his department haven’t got the money to “repair the roads to the standard that we’d like,” Varadkar said that an additional €2.7 million would be allocated for drainage works in particular, which he said would help reduce road deterioration.

With the budget for roads set to be cut again in the upcoming budget, the transport minister said that local authorities would have to focus on their maintenance, and that they would have to use a greater percentage of their motor tax take to make this happen.

Having run a number of pieces before on the state of Ireland’s roads, it would seem that the new focus is very necessary.

So today we ask: Do you think enough is being done to fix Ireland’s roads?
