Recently, I've read a lot of news from yahoo about Taiwanese students going abroad to study or work using working holiday visa. Most of them left Taiwan because they are fed up with the 22k salary system and its hard to save money, therefore they chose to leave the place. Once they travel abroad, they started to realize the problems they'd to face in a foreign land. Its more difficult to find jobs due to language barrier, discrimination and network....etc. The feedback was extreme, some people returned with saving of over 1 million NTD, and some saved only about 6000 NTD and some didn't save any. Recalling my days back in Taiwan, it was actually like a working holiday experience. Though I was born in Taipei, but I've left for too long, common things became unfamiliar to me, even just for the slightest things such as buying a cup of Taiwanese pudding in markets, going on an excursion to Taipei zoo...etc. seemed like a big deal to me. However, I am grateful with the jobs I got, companies I worked for, and friends I met. Though I got stressed out eventually because of the living condition, traffic congestion and pollution, recalling back the memory, I was actually pretty lucky. I wonder if I could ever attain the same luckiness again if I were to return. Life is like a roller coaster, it has its ups and downs, but it's your choice to either close your eyes to scream or raise your hands to enjoy the ride, sometimes you may shit your pants on the big drops, but eventually it will go very fast and don’t last long enough. Therefore, seize the moment and carpe diem.... |
