A Heartfelt Send-off

I had a rendering on "另一種背影" at http://blog.udn.com/kkuo0810/7140167 , in which the paragraph four sadly depicted how the author, the mother of a teenager, sensed the feeling of impatience and remoteness from her adolescent son when she bid him adieu at airport.  Readers might have the empathy with the author if they had similar experience when their child had grown up and not needed them as much as he or she used to.

Yesterday I saw my son off at Taoyuan airport when he was leaving for the States where he is now living at.  We said good-bye to each other before his entering into the immigration.  He gave me a hug and whispered in my ear, "Thanks for everything, Dad."  and then walked into the entrance.  As he passed the gate he turned his back and waved me off.  Again and again he waved as he showed up at the gate among moving queue along the sinuous lines to the security checkpoint, until he disappeared from my sight.  Still standing where I was for several seconds, I continued to feel and enjoy the sense of warmth lingered in my heart.  Actually, that feeling lingers even now.

Senior readers, we don't ask much from our kids, do we?

Nicely written and heart-felt. Thanks, dad.

The feeling is mutual.  Take good care of yourself.
