Teresa Brewer depicted subject melodious song with her high-pitched but mellifluous voice in mid-50s. The sad, wistful tone described a jilted lover was telling her woeful tale of broken romance; languishingly, in a forlorn hope, still she was looking forward to having her darling coming back someday. Sound familiar? Yes, the similar themes recurred everyday throughout history.  So, the song characterized universal human mood what a broken heart would have been.  She was hurt, so deep.  I’m telling you.

The song has become one of my most favorite music ever since I first heard of it half a century ago, and even now I was deeply moved whenever the song played.  Incidentally, I’ve learnt a lot form the song, by which a high school English teacher taught us to distinguish the difference usage of indefinite article "a" from that of definite article "the"; and the different function of "like" acting as a preposition and as a conjunction respectively.

 FYI, I admired Teresa Brewer so much that she was one of the three Teresa’s which I gave the name to my daughter. The other two had been my mother, who was baptized as Teresa, and Sister Teresa.  By the way, thanks to YouTube, thanks to the technology.
