Why can't Uber?

I read a piece of news today that hundreds of taxi drivers drove their car slowly around Executive Yuan in Taipei yesterday and thus paralysed the traffic nearby.  Apparently, the drivers were protesting, but for what?  They protested against DPP administration which intended to let Uber into Taiwan.

Under the name of "Sharing Economy", Uber is kind of a car service network operated though online, originating from America in 2010.  Fares can get their service throgh their mobile phones in hand for any car driver who is a member of Uber, and no doubt the service will become a potentially huge threat to the legal business of existing Taxi.  But why DPP government still gave the green light to Uber, and disregarded the outcry from taxi drivers who had always been the traditional constituency to DPP?  I think partly because Uber is an American system, and DPP dares not to displease their boss.  More importantly, DPP dares not to offend a much larger constituency: young guys, who are conversant with operating their toys on hand.

In fact, it's simply a matter of how to upgrade the system of taxi services and transform it into a business network as to serve more efficiently.  See how did China's Mainland do.  The much more advanced Chinese DiDi system has made a clean sweep in the competition by merging Uber into its network in China.  You may ask how Chinese government do to protect the interest and the safety of vast customers who use DiDi services?  Severe crimnal laws are standing by.

Now you know the difference.  In Taiwan, the government only cares about the votes which are the lifeblood of ruling party's interest, while in Mainland the government cares the welfare of all people and the interest of whole nation.
