I still remember the countenace of a HS teacher when he told us in the classroom some time in late 1964 or early 1965 that China had succeeded in exploding her first A-bomb. The teacher, who then risked his being charged with the crime of "propagating for communist bandits", recounted the news with a mixture of excitement and pride; but most of the students showed no sign of similar sentiments of that kind, and I guess they must have doubted how could it be that China was capable of entering that high-leveled A-bomb club. Not until recently did I know Mr.Zheng Jiaxian(鄭稼先) is one of the most important pioneers in developing China's A-bomb and H-bomb, with which China has withstood the so-called nuclear bluff from America and Soviet again and again, and now safeguarded her peaceful rising. Mr.Zheng died yesterday 30 years ago at only 63. (What a terrible shame it was!) Attached below is a brief biography and some memorial interviews given to Mr.Zheng, the great scientist and patriot. "老邓离开我们30年了:千钧核力动地摇,民族脊梁永生辉!" at http://toutiao.com/a6312511937687355649/, or Yuwei:他成就了共和国半个世纪的和平,只拿了20元奖金 athttp://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_4ee8cf410102x85u.html
P.S. Two years later after Mr.Zheng's decease, a colonel betrayed Taiwan's secret nuclear project to America. To late President Chiang Ching-kuo and the majority of islanders the project had been fell short of success for lack of a final effort, but to me it was just part of the evil scheme of their trying to seek Dutai or Taidu. |
