Subject is the phrase I jotted down when I read it from one of the works of Master Jing Yong, who passed away just two days ago at 94. Rest in peace, Mr Zha. The other day I suggested you guys read as many Chinese classical novels as you can so as to improve the proficiency of your writing Chinese. Before long, the masterpieces of Mr Zha will be categorized into classics, despite the novels concerning the adventures of chivalrous swordsmen. In addition to the fecilities of his writing, Mr Zha is such a polymath that he has been conversant with so much knowledge out of different fields. Therefore, now if I have time to read his books again, I will concentrate more on their purple proses and their literary allusion , not just on the storylines. Mr Zha has truly bequeathed a precious heritage to Chinese people in every corner of the world. FYI, it was nearly 60 years ago that I first read his book when I was just a junior high student. You know, then his works were banned in Taiwan simply because he, as one of the publishers of that politically neutral Mingpo in Hong Kong, was not a "pro-KMT" newspaperman. The clever underground book publisher in Taiwan split his "射鵰英雄傳" into several parts and entilted them with different names. So pathetic! P.S. Not until 80s the opus of Jing Yong were formally published in Taiwan, and then I bought a whole set of his books. My daughter started to read the books when she was only six, and later on her younger brother followed suit.
