The statue is established at a park of Dalian in memory of the first and the only one athlete ever who attended 1932 Los Angles Olympic Game for China: Liu Changchun(劉長春), a 100 meter sprinter. (FYI, I was there to pay my respects to him several years ago.) Please also see my previous writing about him: "up to 51/100 from nothing: China’s Olympic Games in retrospective" at http://blog.udn.com/kkuo0810/7145867
Yesterday Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian(蘇炳添) won the gold medal of 100 meter race with a remarkable performance, 9.92 seconds, in 18th Asian Games. You know, few Asian athletes, especially of Mongolian race, have ever achieved the landmark in 100 meter sprint with 10 seconds below. It is even much harder to come by for a "short guy" of 5-7, 140 pounds only and pushing 30 years old like Su who could acquire such a reputation. Congratulations! Good for you, Su!
