保羅寫這本篇幅很短的書信時，已經入獄，心想，若能出獄最好，否則去見耶穌，也算好事，他已完全順應天命，無怨無悔。但心中非常感激大家對他的厚愛，送給了他那麼多好禮物。同時也為一起受苦的信徒祈禱，希望他能早日出獄，去見老朋友。還一直叮嚀信徒們，要謹記教誨，讓信仰帶領，使人生充滿光明。
