Media

There are quite a lot of media in Taiwan , but the one I’ve chosen is China Times. I’ve been reading it since I was child. And it’s not only a newspaper , more importantly , it is my spiritual food. To be honest , I just scan the headlines because I am not interested in the boring news, whereas I prefer to read the supplements . In particular the serial novels are my most favorite part. By the way,  I can write Chinese essay very well , I think the major reason is I read many articles from this gazette .

On the other hand  , I feel a little upset because this media cannot avoid to report some gossips to meet the public , and there are less literary and artistic creations than before. Maybe it is inevitable because they need to attract the readers to make their benefit.

On the other hand , since I can read news from internet, I merely read paper news because I prefer to know the up-to-date news. Furthermore , to read e-paper ,we can admonish the usage of paper. Having say that , I still read the free ones while I go to hair salons or cafes to kill my time.

Do you usually discuss news stories with others?

Yes ,I do . I like to discuss with my friends or may elder sister my opinions . But I avoid to talk about the political topics because somebody are very difficult to communicate , they are very subject and cannot accept others have different standpoint.

Is reading newspapers the only way you have to keep up with current affairs ?

No, I rarely read newspapers. In fact , I always read news from internet or watch TV news. Why I don't read newspapers , one reason is I needn't spend more money to buy , another one is reading electric-paper , we needn't use paper , so we can diminish the usage amount of paper.

What’s the difference between newspaper news and , say , Internet news?

As Well,  the internet news almost are more concise , and more ordered because most news on electric-paper categorized . In addition   the contents and advertisements are less than the newspaper. For example , if I want to read poets or essays , I cannot find them from the Internet. Furthermore   , we can read the up-to-date news from Internet, I think it is the most important reason I like to read news from the Internet.

Would you  buy just the exciting or sensational headline?

 Yes , I do , although I don't want , but most headlines have gravitation that I want to know the details of them. For example , the ex-president is accused corruption , I want to know who are the accomplices and how they do.

The role do you think the media should play?

As I think the media have to take the responsibility to report the truth. They have to reject to service the politics or just maintain their benefit. They should have no prejudice to report the news, I think these are the important rule they have to obey.

Is there any tabloid in this country?

Yes . There are so many tabloids in Taiwan, because most of them have very good sales volume. Unfortunately , most of news papers which proclaim they are the elite-paper  in here become to report gossips together because they cannot compete the tabloids.

What do you think of tabloids?

I don't like but sometimes I read them when I read them I needn't pay for them. I think human like to read gossip especially the news of well-known people. Most people to want to know the unknown side of them, so I think tabloids maybe never exist.

Do you think the press should be censored?

 No, I don't think the press can be censored. The first reason is  the freedom of expression . If the news are not truth , the parties can accuse the reporters.   Another reason is news-censored always service some people who are in power  , it is not normal situation.
