This song, "I Told You So," written by Randy Travis ,
was originally released by Randy Travis in 1987,
and was his 1988 No.1 hit, then was re-recorded by
Carrie Underwood on her 2007 album: Carnival Ride .

The unofficial duet was created by 26-year-old country radio jock
Jesse Tack in January from WUBE-FM (B105.1) Cincinnati
and has been playing there since.

On March 18, this Wednesday night,
Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis performed the duet
on 'American Idol', which is the official version of
'I Told You So' first time debut in public.

I just loved the way that Randy smiled and then beamed and
smiled again at Carrie as she sang her heart out on the stage.

I can't help but recall Randy's words to Carrie on
the night she was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry ...
"your vocals are far more suited to this song than mine ever could be."

I had a feeling that Carrie's version of I Told You So
will become what Whitney's version of I Will Always Love You
did to Dolly's song.

In fact I recall Dolly once in an interview saying
"who would have ever thought that song could be sung like that."

Dolly and Randy as the writers of these 2 remarkable #1 hit songs,
must just love to hear their beloved songs taken to another level
by another remarkable singers.
