劇情內容是描述阿根廷前第一夫人伊娃·裴隆（Eva Peron，即艾薇塔）從一個受盡社會歧視的私生女到權傾阿根廷的主政者的傳奇一生。本片以音樂劇的形式來講述艾薇塔，雖然阿根廷的人民對於瑪丹娜飾演心中的聖女極為不滿，且電影上映後並未超越改編自安德魯韋伯和提姆萊斯所寫的音樂劇《EVITA》，但整體來說還是可圈可點，在當年曾獲金球獎最佳音樂類或喜劇類影片，最佳音樂或喜劇類女主角，最佳電影歌曲（Don't cry for me, Argentina ）。
