Respect the Tranquility Here Hsu ChiCheng
—Morning Tour to Carp Pool on June 10th, 2002
Though the sun has not yet got up
The first sun rays sent by it in advance
Have immersed transparent and bright
The time and the space
— When I finally arrive
What tranquility! So tranquil
That I dare not stamp my feet
Because tranquility is
Surface of the pool free from any ripples
Any little stone thrown by anybody
Is going to destroy its tranquility
This is not only me
Even green hills all around
And green trees atop green hills
And birds in green trees
And strolling morning breezes
Are all so scrupulous
To respect the tranquility here
Even when I am to depart
I do not open my mouth
To bid adieu to hermits here
Like Thoreau and Tao Yuanming
