【Golden Words from Grand Master Sheng-Yen Lu】 His Holiness Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu Disclosed 『the Differences of Esoteric Buddhism and Exoteric Buddhism』?

The slight differences of Esoteric Buddhism and Exoteric Buddhism:

1. Every form of evil cannot be done, do all good deeds, purify one's mind, is the teaching of all Buddhism.
   The first two sentences is "Exoteric Buddhism".
   The last two sentences is "Esoteric Buddhism".
   Tantric/Esoteric Buddhism is three mysteries cultivation, body, speech and mind, which is actually one mystery.
   Once the mind is purified, body and speech will also definitely be purified.
   Therefore, the ultimate goal of all of the Tantra dharma of Esoteric Buddhism is to "purify one's mind".
2. Cultivate Exoteric Buddhism is "to rely upon the Dharma and not upon the person".
   Cultivate Esoteric Buddhism is "to rely upon the Dharma and also rely upon the person".
   This is due to all of the dharma of Vajrayana would need blessings/empowerments from root guru to attain achievements,
   therefore, it is to rely upon the Dharma and also rely upon the person.

密宗與顯教略有不同：

1. 諸惡莫作,眾善奉行,自淨其意,是諸佛教。
   前面二句是「顯教」。
   後面二句是「密教」。
   密教是身口意清淨三密的修行,其實是一密。
   意念一清淨,身口也一定清淨。
   所以密宗的一切密法,其最終目的,是「自淨其意」。
2. 修顯教是【依法不依人】。
   修密宗是【依法又依人】。
   因為密宗一定要根本上師的加持才能成就,所以是依法又依人。
