１９７３年７月　２７歲的美國性格藝人雪兒發行第十張個人大碟〔Half-Breed／混血兒〕（MCA唱片發行）

在上一張流行標準風格專輯［Bittersweet White Light失敗後，雪兒永久放棄丈夫 Sonny Bono作為她專輯製作人。

改由先前合作過的Snuff Garrett 重返擔任製作，錄製另一張敘事民謠專輯，評價好壞兩極．

《滾石》評論家 Paul Gambaccini 對 Snuff Garrett 的製作工作給予負評，評論說“雪兒令人驚嘆的強大聲音沒有得到有效利用，聽到它被浪費在垃圾上令人沮喪。”

同名歌曲為〔Half-Breed／混血兒〕首支單曲

由Al Capps＋Mary Dean創作，是一部經典的“混血兒悲劇”，從非土著人的角度講述一位年輕女子的故事，她的父親是白人，母親是切羅基人。

歌手講述壓迫性的白人稱她為“印第安女人”，並聲稱美洲原住民不接受她作為他們自己的一員，因為“印第安人根據法律說我是白人”。

其實歌詞有誤，因為切羅基人（像東部林地的大多數原住民一樣）是母系文化，這意味著切羅基人母親所生的孩子被接受為切羅基人，無論父親的國籍或種族如何，因此父母的種族必須顛倒過來——白人母親和本土父親——才會出現這種情況。

歌曲批判種族主義和雙重標準。

Snuff Garrett將其製作成一首流行搖滾／民謠搖滾，
