靈感來源是瓊斯和她的情人兼作曲家湯姆·威茨（Tom Waits）花了很多時間與朋友查克·E·韋斯 (Chuck E. Weiss) 在洛杉磯破舊的 Tropicana 汽車旅館閒聊。

最後，被暱稱為“Chuck E.”的韋斯消失了。後來韋斯給瓊斯和韋茨住的公寓打了電話。

當威茨接到電話時，韋斯解釋說他在丹佛，他搬到那裡是因為他愛上了那裡的一個表妹。

當威茨掛斷電話時，他向瓊斯宣布，「查克·E.戀愛了」。
