因未成年時與大她３３歲的滾石樂隊貝斯手 Bill Wyman戀愛而出名。

１９８７年１月，史密斯以‘Mandy’單名推出首支單曲［I Just Cant Wait／我等不及了］（PWL 唱片）

但英國失敗，歐陸與日本成功

１９８７年１０月，１７歲推出第二首單曲［Positive Reaction／積極反應］

由Stock、Aitken、Waterman譜寫，並製作成一首合成流行／舞曲流行曲．

節奏強勁，旋律琅琅上口．

［Positive Reaction］反應跟［I Just Cant Wait］一樣，英國冷漠──未入榜．

但在歐洲和日本仍反應較好：瑞士＃１１，德國＃３９　義大利＃２０　

由於單曲在歐陸與日本的成功，讓曼蒂得以灌錄首張專輯．

１９８８年４月，史密斯推出首張大碟［Mandy］，收錄之前發行的三首單曲，

但未入英國專輯榜，

但拿到瑞士＃１４，瑞典＃３５，義大利＃４１，德國＃６０，澳大利亞＃１４４
