１９８２年末　事業剛起步的未來美國流行女皇－２４歲的瑪丹娜（Madonna）以首支單曲［Everybody］在舞廳受到矚目

Sire唱片決定為她發行專輯   並選擇已參與過不少暢銷專輯的Reggie Lucas

後者說服瑪丹娜轉向較為流行路線, 並為其製作了［Burning Up／燃燒］（瑪丹娜先前交給Sire的個人創作試唱帶）［Physical Attraction］（Reggie Lucas譜寫）

Reggie Lucas將瑪丹娜先前交給Sire的試唱帶歌曲［Burning Up］作了大幅度變動

娜姐對此不滿　導致兩人爭執

Reggie Lucas製作完歌曲後　也沒根據瑪丹娜的特色修飾便離開

因此娜姐只好找來一個迪斯可遊樂場所的DJ──John”Jellybean”Benitez來重新混音

他為［Burning Up］加入一些吉他演奏與歌聲

１９８３年３月　［Burning Up］作為瑪丹娜第二單曲推出

這是一首後迪斯可風格的Dance –Pop

在急促的舞曲節拍中, 娜姐表達對愛人的感情

瑪丹娜並在紐約舞廳進行個人宣傳表演

MV則在內景與外景馬路拍攝

跟上首［Everybody］一樣　［Burning Up］並沒打入Billboard單曲榜

而拿到舞曲榜＃３

１９８４年６月　娜姐人氣逐漸上升後　則打入澳洲榜＃１３

［Burning Up］的B面歌曲是［Physical Attraction］

在某些國家則以雙A面主打［Burning Up／Physical Attraction］出版

雖然此曲商業成績（除舞曲榜外）並非特別出色

但Sire公司仍對瑪丹娜的潛力頗具信心

果真下首單曲［Holiday］便讓她在主流市場打出名氣
