Barry Buzan and Ana Gonzalez-Pelaez, “International Community after Iraq”, International Affairs, January 2005, 81:1

[The] opinion of E. H. Carr that the “English-speaking peoples are past masters in the art of concealing their selfish national interests in the guise of the general good”—an art clearly lost by the time we got to Condoleeza Rice and the neo-conservatives.

(The citation from Carr is in The Twenty Years Crisis, p. 79)

Marx and Engels, The Communist Manifesto, 1848: (emphasis added)

The Communists disdain to conceal their views and aims. They openly declare that their ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions. Let the ruling classes tremble at a communist revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win.

那是因為Carr之前都沒有真正的單極秩序. 所以要狡猾地假道學. 現在新保認為美國已經超強, 故不須隱瞞意圖?
