The other day the newly-inaugurated US president Joe Biden signed a memorandum "condemning and combating racism, xenophobia, and intolerance against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States." Obviously, the Biden memorandum is applicable to that xenophobic term "China Pneumonia", instead of the formal name COVID-19, used by his predecessor, Donald Trump. In Taiwan, I do not think DPP administration had guts officially calling the disease the same as Trump did, so the xenophobic, discriminative term "Wuhan Pneumonia" or "Wuhan Virus" had become its "formal" usage (including Central News Agency) till now, totally disregarded the terminology regulated by WTO. Now that its American dad has said something different, dare DPP administration pretend otherwise any more? Well, dont you worry about that because backtracking has always been one of its fortes. Let us just wait and see. |
