Historical Asset of Beitou - The Guitar Bridge of Hot Spring Town
Beitou is blessed with the unique nature resource, hot spring, and has been long well-known
as a spa town. It has been even named as ''Taiwan Hollywood.''
The period from 1950s to 1960s was the peak of local film industry. Highest record showed
two-third films were shot at Beitou area. The spa town was like a large studio.
No matter day or night, visitors crowded along the banks of Beitou Creek.
The entertainment business was very prosperous during that period.
The reasons why Beitou became the Taiwanese film studio were:
1. Natural waterfalls formed by dense hot spring.
2. Thick forest scenery.
3. Historical structures. They were built in Japanese occupied period, like
public bath pool, arched stone bridge, New Beitou Railway Station, to name a few.
With the natural and exotic scenery as the background, Beitou is always uniquely
enchanting.
The Taiwanese film ''The Guitar Bridge of Hot Spring Town'' shot in 1966, has reserved
many precious records of Beitou.
The graceful arch bridge shown in the photos below was the location where the actor were
playing guitar and singing the theme song of the sad movie.
Editor's footnotes: The movie's name in Chinese was 溫泉鄉的吉他, so it also meant
''The Guitar of Spa Town.'' There is a standing plate by the bridge at Beitou Creek
saying ''溫泉鄉的吉他橋.'' The writer made above description according to the plate.
