ENglish vision Now, I lay aside ornament and return to simplicity. My words grow plain, needing no embellishment. What is most precious in language is a mind of non-doing— like a ray of light: it does not bend, it needs no increase, no reduction. What gives rise to this light is not the cluttered intellect, but a mind clear, pure, and unstained. Words are the voice of the mind; language and writing are its vessel. When the mind is disturbed, words drift. As they grow tainted, the speaker becomes bound by his own speech and creations. Thought has no inherent nature. Yet once clothed in language, it appears real within the unreal. But thoughts change. What does not change is the mind itself. I have found my original mind. All that I have written is, in truth, illusion. Yet this mind is real. My mind is like the bright moon— clear, unstained, luminous, shining upon all. It is the source of all that is and is not. I am the bright moon; the bright moon is me. Each particle of moonlight is illusory, yet the moon’s presence is real. Night after night, its light remains. Holding the moon in my literary life, I have come close to silence. Where words come to rest, the mind reveals itself as it is. |
